aftermath: the facts

Julie Hudson was ten years old when she was hit by a drunk driver named Lucas Evans. She was hit outside her house, where she ran into the street to grab a ball that escaped her grasp. Lucas did not attempt to swerve out of the way, as he did not see her coming. She died at the hospital, after suffering four broken ribs, a broken femur, and several terminal bruises to the head. The doctors say she was unconscious when she arrived, which spared her from most of the pain, but she died nonetheless. Dr. Lopez attempted her best, but was unable to revive the girl after her heartbeat went out. Officer Puckerman arrived at the scene shortly after paramedics, staying with Mr. Hudson while his wife went to the hospital. The officer arrested the young boy, and took him into custody.
The funeral was a week later, and it was a beautiful reception. Both of her parents spoke about their young and only daughter, and through tears, managed to convey her beautiful personality. Lucas was invited to the funeral, but he declined, saying it would cause ‘too much trouble for everyone involved’. Mrs. Hudson returned to work a few days later, saying that she ‘needed to get back where she belonged’.
